We field lots of teams in regional and national league and cup competitions at junior, senior and vets level. We provide lots of opportunities for players aged 8 to 80! This is a big part of life at Rutherglen LTC, but team tennis is not limited to strong or experienced players. We field sufficient teams to provide an opportunity for everyone to enjoy competitive tennis whatever their standard.
We enter league and cup competitions throughout the year, including the West of Scotland Spring and Summer Leagues, Winter Sunday League, Winter Monday Night Floodlight League, Aegon Regional and National League and various local and national cup competitions. Our Gents 1st team play in Division 1/2 (third top league in the West of Scotland) and our Gents 5th team play in Division 8 (the lowest league in the West of Scotland). This shows our commitment to give all our members keen to play competitive tennis the opportunity regardless of their ability. This reinforces our strong ethos of fun, inclusive tennis.
Our rapid growth and expansion as a club is clearly illustrated in the number of teams we field and the level they compete at. A great example of this is our Summer League teams. In 2011 we fielded two ladies and two gents teams. In 2017 we fielded 4 ladies and 5 gents teams. As illustrated below, not only has the number increased, but so too has the standard.
