As I’m sure you all know, South Lanarkshire, as with most of the West of Scotland, moves into Tier 4 of the Scottish Government’s Public Health Framework for managing the coronavirus pandemic. This comes into effect from 6pm today (Friday 20th November). Tennis Scotland, in collaboration with Scottish Government, have produced a complementary matrix setting out what these rules mean for tennis clubs and this is illustrated below.
Moving from Tier 3 to Tier 4 affects us in two ways. Firstly, we will need to close the toilets at Viewpark.
So, from 6pm today, there will be no toilet facilities available at either venue. Please factor this in when making plans to visit.
We can advise that Tennis Scotland has lobbied Scottish Government on our behalf and they have, today, advised an “exemption that permits travel locally (within around 5 miles of your local authority area) in to and out of Level 4 areas to reach a place to take exercise outdoors”.
So, by our calculation, the boundaries of the following local authority areas are within 5 miles of our facilities and hence members who live in these areas can continue to access our courts throughout the new Tier 4 restrictions as normal:
We very much welcome this common sense approach from Tennis Scotland and Scottish Government which allows the vast majority of our members to continue to enjoy some tennis in what is a very difficult and challenging time.

For those fortunate enough to still be able to access the club, the good news is Tier 4 brings no further restrictions, with social play and coaching being allowed to proceed as before. However, we must continue to observe social distancing rules on and off the courts. This is essential to ensure everyone’s safety and retain the opportunity to keep playing for the benefit of everyone.
Hopefully these heightened restrictions won’t last long and we’ll all be back on court again soon.
As always, any questions, queries etc. just shout.
Take care and look after each other.
