We’re pleased to report that Replay Maintenance are now on-site at our Viewpark Courts ready to start the Rejuvenation works as soon as the courts thaw. This work can be completed in the wet but not when the courts are frozen as the ice/frost locks-in the sand. Warmer air temperatures are forecast over the next few days, so they are hopeful they can start work later today/tomorrow.
Whilst the recent cold snap has delayed the start of this work, we will work with Replay to get the job finished as quickly as we possibly can, so that we can all get back to enjoying 7 courts and some beautiful “as new” artificial grass courts. However, it is highly likely that the work will extend beyond the duration previously envisaged (and booked-out on our court booking system), and so the courts are unlikely to be available for play from Friday morning.
We may therefore need to shuffle existing court bookings at Burnside to accommodate some activities planned for Viewpark, but we hope to minimise these as much as possible and will be in touch again once we have a better feel for how long the work at Viewpark will take. With the work being weather dependent, things are very much outside of our control, and so we appreciate your ongoing patience and understanding on this.
We’re delighted to be able to advise that we’ve found a way to reopen one of the toilets in our Burnside Clubhouse. Top joiner and all round good-guy Stevie Warrender has built a temporary partition which allows us to open-up the front of the clubhouse whilst blocking off the rest of the clubroom and changing areas. This means that we will be able to open the accessible toilet – the one on the right hand side as you enter – in line with Public Health and Tennis Scotland guidance. We felt it was important to take this action now with the Viewpark Courts closed for rejuvenation.
This toilet will be available for use from tomorrow – Tuesday 8th December. Just like at Viewpark, the clubhouse will be opened and closed for members each day, so you don’t need any keys, codes etc. To ensure we continue to comply with all relevant guidance, protocols etc. and thereby maintain the privilege of being able to play tennis in these challenging times, please do not loiter inside either clubhouse.
We have been trying to find a paid cleaner to take on this role – the toilets need to be cleaned daily to meet Pubic Health guidance – but have not yet been successful. We will continue with this search – in the meantime they will be cleaned by volunteers. If you know of anyone who would be interested in some part-time work, then please get in touch. We would also be delighted for them to take-on the Viewpark daily shift to give them a more substantive job.
Just a quick reminder that Charlie and the boys are back at our Viewpark Courts to sell their awesome Christmas trees. They are open for business throughout the rejuvenation works and look forward to seeing you and sorting you out with a beautiful tree.
Thanks to all the ladies who contacted Julie to say they’d like to join our Expedition Paddle Tennis. The response has been fantastic! If you’ve not yet got back to her but would like to get involved, either on the water or as part of the support team, then please e-mail her by clicking the button below. This promises to be an amazing adventure creating memories that’ll be cherished forever, whilst raising some money for #RLTCProject100.
For those who have got back to Julie already, she’ll be in touch with you soon to get things started.

Regrettably, due to the ongoing coronavirus restrictions, we’ve taken the difficult decision to postpone this year’s John Harris Memorial Tournament. We will rearrange this in the new year once restrictions lift to the extent that we can do this very popular event and John’s memory justice. As per previous years, when we do run the event, we will be taking donations for the British Heart Foundation to allow them to continue to do their fabulous work.
We hope that everyone who knew John will have him firmly in their thoughts this festive period, particularly on Boxing Day which will be the 8th anniversary of his passing after collapsing with a cardiac arrest whilst playing with friends on our Viewpark Courts.
As always, please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or queries about any of the updates above or the wider club. We’d love to hear from you.
