Clay Court Care
Clay Court Maintenance | Step-by-Step Guide
If the courts are dry, please give them a quick sweep using one of the drag mats hung at the back of the courts. This keeps them looking their best for the next players and helps prolong their life - saving the club money and protecting our courts for everyone. Please follow the simple instructions below.
1. Clear Debris
Before sweeping, please remove any large debris from the court surface, such as leaves, twigs, or litter.
2. Sweep the Court
Start at one net post and drag the mat across the court in line with the net. Then continue down the outside of the tramlines towards the fence, across the back of the court, and work your way inwards in a spiral pattern until you reach the centre of that side of the court.
Repeat the same process at the opposite end of the court.
Please do not simply drag the mat straight across the court or up and down the playing surface, as this removes sand from where it is needed most. The correct brushing pattern is illustrated in the diagram below.

You should not sweep the courts when they are wet - the sand will cling to the drag mat and be lifted off the court.
